Pakistan Super League ambassador Ramiz Raja with Shahid Afridi and Misbah-ul-Haq at the launch of the tournament.

The nation's celebrities came together in Lahore on Sunday to give the Pakistan Super League a glamorous introduction. Designed like the now famous Indian Premier League, the Twenty20 tournament has been scheduled in either Qatar or UAE in February 2016.
A product of Pakistan Cricket Board, the Pakistan Super League, is making all the right noises. Some of the world's leading T20 cricketers like Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen and Lasith Malinga, have agreed to play and home-spun big boys like Shahid Afridi, Umar Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammed Hafeez are expected to add hype to an ambitious project, headed by ex-PCB boss Najam Sethi.
On Sunday, the PSL got off to a rocking start with Ali Zafar singing the tournament anthem -- Khel Ke Dikha Denge Aaj. With most Test-playing nations refusing to tour Pakistan for reasons of security, the nation has been in need of a product to catch world attention. PSL could give PCB the much-needed relief.
PSL governing council Sethi said: "We want everyone to know that we are here and we are here with a purpose. We will not settle for anything less than making PSL one of the leading products that has ever come out of Pakistan."
Two veteran stars and former skippers - Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja - are backing the tournament. Both Akram and Raja have covered events around the globe and their good advice will surely matter.
"I have experienced cricket and entertainment going together in various parts of the world but to now get associated with a Pakistani product is an entirely different experience. I think Pakistanis will proudly own the PSL," said Raja.
According to reports, around 10 parties have shown active interest in buying the five teams up for grabs in the first edition of the PSL. The four provincial capitals -- Quetta, Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar -- will be joined by Islamabad in a 24-match tournament. (Kevin Pietersen Gives PSL a Celebrity Boost).

Kevin Pietersen, after snub from the English Cricket Board, has been playing in several T20 tournaments like the Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League and South Africa's Ram Slam Twenty20.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) got a big boost on Sunday when maverick England cricketer Kevin Pietersen confirmed he was available for the inaugural Twenty20 event to be played in February in the UAE. (Gayle to spice up Pakistan Super League)
According to a report in cricket.com.au, Pietersen, no stranger to the high-profile Indian Premier League, said he was keen to play. The former England batsman confirmed his participation through a video message during the launch of the PSL in Lahore on Sunday.
"Absolutely buzzing to be a part of the Pakistani mela (event) coming up in February. I can't wait to get it started," Pietersen said.
After being snubbed by the England cricket management, KP has been playing a lot of T20 cricket. The 35-year-old superstar played in the Caribbean Premier League and will also turn out in South Africa's Ram Slam Twenty20 competition in November.
"It looks like it is going to be a wonderful competition. Lots of fun, lots of sixes, lots of wickets, typical T20 stuff. I am really excited to be a part of this wonderful tournament and excited to get going. I will see you guys soon," Pietersen said.
West Indians Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine have already confirmed their participation for PSL. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan, New Zealand all-rounder Grant Elliot and Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews will also play in the tournament.
The inaugural season of the PSL is set to include five teams from the provincial capitals - Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta - and include 24 matches between February 4-24. There will be a players' auction for the teams to pick their superstars.
